Question: How Do You Climb Mount Everest?

Answer: One Step at a Time
And?: It's the same for Clutter Clearing.

1) What’s your Everest?
Identify what you clutter problems actually are.
Do you want to clear your whole home? Or do you have a particular problem room? Do you want your business to run more smoothly but find your ‘stuff’ gets in the way?
It’s easier to tackle a challenge when you know exactly what you are up against. Write is down.
2) What Can You See From The Top of Mount Everest?
Take some time to think about the benefits tackling your clutter once and for all.
How will you feel? How will your life be easier? How will it look? What new things could come into your life if you shed your old ‘stuff’? What will you have? More Clarity? More peace of mind? More space? More time?
Spend some fantasy time really enjoying those feelings. Explore them until you can really understand why clearing your clutter is important to you. Create your vision of your perfect environment.
3) One Small Step at a Time Gets You to The Top:
If you only cleared one unwanted item a day that would make you 365 items lighter by the beginning of 2007. That’s a lot of clearing for a very tiny amount of effort.

Regular consistent action will enable you to eventually stand satisfied at the mountain top. If you set your self 5 minutes a day of clearing you will achieve a lot. There are lots of tasks that can be completed in that time: a book shelf, a drawer, a briefcase, a kitchen surface, your shoe collection! And big jobs can be broken down into 5 minute chunks too. It’s amazing how much you will achieve.

4) Day to Day living on the Mountain
Think about how you will tackle things that come into your life on a day to day basis.
How will you deal with unwanted gift? What about the post? Do you buy things that you don’t really need? What will you do next time you have an urge to shove something in the spare room you actually want to clear? It’s no good clearing 365 items if during the year you collect another 365 to replace them.
Make everyday a clean slate. Don’t add to your clutter.

5) The Emotional Journey Up The Mountain

Most of what we do has an emotional content. If it didn’t we wouldn’t be human. Clutter clearing can be a highly emotional journey. This is normal.
It teaches you about yourself. Sometimes you may feel stuck, angry or frustrated: "Do I really want to get rid of this? I feel guilty. Why have I allowed myself to get into such a mess?" Sometimes you feel elated and liberated: "Wow, why didn’t I do this before? This is so good I want everyone to do it!" It’s all a normal part of the process and it’s this bit which really teaches you how to stay clutter free because it helps you understand your own thought patterns so that you can change them into more positive ones.
Keep it simple: less is more!
