Client's Tips
"Have
a car boot sale every couple of months along with friends
and don't BUY anything!
Give the money either to
charity or to buy something you really have wanted but couldn't
afford like that day away at a health spa!
Never ever take anyone else's
cast offs as you usually don't use/wear them
Everytime you clear your
clutter award yourself with a nice day out with friends
for lunch/tea
Pamper yourself
afterwards with a sauna/swim and tell yourself how clear/clean
you feel"

"I am and have been
fighting clutter for a long time. A lot of people do not
understand hat it is more than laziness. I have always prided
myself that although I am untidy I am not dirty however
it is much harder to clean and so it is getting or rather
is in reality at the least dusty or most dirty. I don’t
like it. My mum and dad are clutters and can’t throw
away – I really struggle. You never know when it will
come in handy!!! And I hate wasting money.
Anyway I found a good gentle way to start. I love baking,
so I hoard the recipes, buy the ingredients, promise the
kids and yet rarely get round to it.
Last week I was determined at least once in six weeks to
do it. We chose chocolate rice crispy cakes – bought
the rice crispys (I knew I had bars of cooking chocolate
in the cupboard). So we started by fetching down a bar which
was out of date (surprise, surprise) – cos I’m
not organized most of my baking stuff goes off before I
do anything with it. But cos I hate wasting money we have
a look at it to see if it’s still alright - YUK!!
– there’s little bugs crawling on the chocolate.
2Never mind the other one;s in date,” I say. Only
to find cos it had been in the same cupboard as the out
of date stuff, that too was crawling. So I checked the cupboard
and threw away two carrier bags of icing sugar, dried fruit,
flour, brown sugar etc. And then moved on to another cupboard
with flour for bread and other packets for out of date stuff
and filled another carrier bag. Feeling inspired I moved
onto the sauce, marinades, etc cupboard and chucked out
of date and stuff that should have been stored in the fridge
once opened. (I only found out recently that Tomato Ketchup
should be stored in the fridge.) That was another two bags
and then another bag on out of date herbs and spices.
As a result I am now a good mother once again – other
stuff will always come in handy but not dangerous foods
– and I have clean cupboards. I was amazed at how
liberating it felt and recently saw your services on ebay
– have read your tips, have been inspired some nore,
cleared a dining table top, thrown away some shoes –
and this is only the start. As I am moving soon I have to
get myself sorted and I want my new house to be totally
different. No apologizing for my home of feeling ashamed.
Cheers"

**When the thought enters your mind
about putting that thing away later (rather than now), STOP.
Remember that there actually is no later time that you will
actively WANT to put it away...and procrastinating will
only make it worse. In fact, putting something like a cardigan
down 'to put away later' will probably mean that it will
ALSO need ironing later....but if you put it away now you'll
not only keep it uncreased, you'll have stopped potential
clothing piles....you'll save yourself a later job AND you
can feel proud of yourself for taking action.
**Give yourself self-praise for every single item you do
deal with.
**Make a game of de-cluttering. Like....you can only take
3 breaths whilst you clear 5 things right NOW...GO!
**Imagine what it feels like to be the clutter. Poor clutter,
feeling unloved. If it's time for someone else to enjoy
it, let it go ....if it's stuff you like but you are not
looking after it properly or displaying it properly, how
must that make it feel? What would you feel like dumped
like that? Come on, it deserves better.
